The American Society for Microbiology has recently held their Agar Art competition. This competition involves agar plates painted with cultures to make beautiful works of art.The work pictured is “Neurons” by Maria Penil which won first place. Other notable works included a fluorescent map of New York City and “Harvest” which was made entirely of yeast used to make bread, wine and beer.
